WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA?

Sleep apnea is a condition in which breathing is disrupted during sleep. This can happen because the airway is blocked, or because the brain does not signal the muscles to breathe properly. Sleep apnea can lead to daytime fatigue, forgetfulness, and moodiness. It can also increase the risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. If you think you might have sleep apnea, it's important to see a doctor or sleep specialist right away so that you can get started on treatment.

Treatment Options for Sleep Apnea

There are a number of different treatment options for sleep apnea. The most common option is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), which involves using a machine to pump air into the lungs through a mask worn during sleep. CPAP is very effective at treating sleep apnea, but some people find it difficult to use because of the mask and noise from the machine.

Another common treatment option is an oral appliance, which is worn in the mouth during sleep and keeps the airway open. Oral appliances are much smaller and quieter than CPAP machines, and many people find them more comfortable to use. However, they may not be as effective as CPAP machines for people with severe sleep apnea.

At Kisling Family Dentistry, we offer custom-made oral appliances that are designed to fit each patient's individual needs. If you're interested in learning more about our oral appliance therapy options, please contact us today.
